Expert Witness & Criminal Defense Casework: Professor Gregory Gilbertson sincerely values and appreciates all requests for expert witness or criminal defense casework. However, he does not accept every case. Professor Gilbertson carefully reviews all of the facts and circumstances of each case with counsel before accepting or declining work. Furthermore, Professor Gilbertson does not accept non-attorney clients unless or until they are represented by a lawyer.

Expert Witness Fees & Retainers: Expert witness fees typically range from $5000.00 – $8000.00 depending on the nature and complexity of the case. Mileage is invoiced at $0.53 per mile.  A preliminary assessment of casework is billed at $175.00 per hour, with a 4-hour minimum.  A signed fee agreement and minimum 50% retainer are required before work begins on any expert witness case. The remaining 50% due in full to Gilbertson Investigations 120 days from the date of retaining counsel signing the fee agreement. No additional fees are billed to retaining counsel for casework or trial testimony unless mutually agreed upon by both parties in advance.

Travel Expenses: Expert witness fees do not include travel expenses outside western Washington. Travel expenses include the most direct round trip, first class airfare available from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to the destination city. In addition, reasonable hotel, rental car or taxi, airport parking, and $100.00 per day (2-day minimum) for overnight travel will be invoiced to retaining counsel in advance of any travel.

Opposing Counsel Depositions: Depositions and interviews are billed at $395.00 per hour. Driving time from Olympia to deposition venues is billed at $175.00 per hour and $0.53 per mile. Parking fees are also invoiced at $25.00 per day. No travel fees are billed for depositions or interviews conducted in Lacey or Olympia, Washington. “Regus” professional offices offer video conferencing for depositions in Olympia, Washington. “Regus” can be reached by telephone at (360) 918-7200, or by email at olympia.union400@regus.com. Opposing counsel depositions which require overnight or out-of-state travel are also invoiced at $500.00 per day (2-day minimum) in addition to the hourly deposition rate and reasonable travel expenses.

Opposing Counsel Invoicing: Opposing counsel will be invoiced in advance for 4-hours of deposition or pretrial interview time and the estimated round-trip driving time, mileage, and parking from Olympia to the deposition venue. Payment of advance invoices is required prior to beginning depositions or interviews. Final deposition invoices will be forwarded to opposing counsel within ten (10) business days.

Criminal Defense Casework: The minimum retainer for criminal defense casework is $5000.00. This retainer will be billed at $175.00 per hour.  Travel will be charged at $0.53 per mile. Parking fees will also be invoiced.

Agency Licensing: Gilbertson Investigations Inc. is licensed, bonded, and insured in the State of Washington as an unarmed private investigations agency.
